Leave of absence
Before the start of the stay abroad, the school in Germany must agree to a leave of absence.
This leave of absence must be requested in writing from the respective school administration in good time (preferably one year in advance).
Depending on the school year in which the stay abroad takes place, the student can return to the previous class or have to accept an additional school year.

Visa
Some countries require a specific visa to attend school. Please clarify this with the respective embassy in good time.
School fees
Unlike in Germany, in some countries foreigners without a permanent or long-term residence permit are also charged fees for public schools.
Recognition of school achievements after returning to Germany
In any case, you should be able to present the following documents so that school achievements can be credited after your return from abroad:
- Certificate from the foreign school about regular school attendance
- Participation in certain subjects (usually math, English, a natural science, a subject in the humanities, another foreign language or the subject of the advanced course planned in Germany).
