Accident reports

What (to do) if it has happened...

Work-related or commuting accidents must be reported as quickly as possible to the Occupational safety department or the in-house paramedics.

Civil servants report accidents to the HR department.

Students report accidents to the Seezeit service centre.

If you are unable to report the accident yourself, the person who first learns of the accident will do so. Often these are the direct superiors.

In general, you should enter any kind of injury (including minor cuts, tick bites, etc.) in an accident message block (available in all of the university's first-aid boxes). In the case of accidents with sick leave of more than three calendar days, please fill in a clearly legible accident report and send it to the in-house paramedics so that the accident can be reported to the accident insurance as quickly as possible.

If you are ill or absent for less than three calendar days due to the accident, we recommend that you prepare an accident report and send it to the occupational safety.

In a nutshell:

Without proof there is no recognition, without recognition there is no service.

Therefore the urgent advice applies to all employees/students after an accident: Make an entry in the accident book/fill in an accident report or see an accident insurance consultant (if you need to be treated, see an accident isurance consultant who is authorised by the professional associations, not your GP).

UKBW info sheet: The right means of transport after a work-related accident

This regulation only applies to work-related accidents and commuting accidents by students or employees (not by civil servants).
A taxi ride is preferable to using one's own car, as the accompanying person is insured by the UKBW, but property damage such as damage to one's own car is not. Travel costs to the home of the injured person cannot be reimbursed!
Internal illnesses (e.g. cardiovascular problems) and related travel costs are covered by your private or public health insurance.
