Further financing possibilities for your doctorate

Financing through employment

About half of all doctorates at the University of Konstanz are financed through employment as a research assistant.

Job advertisements of the University of Konstanz for scientific employees can be found on the job advertisements page. Scientific job offers can also be found on www.academics.com or via mailing lists of the student body of your desired department.

External doctoral fellowships

Instead of a staff position, a doctoral degree may also be funded by a grant from government or private institutions and from foundations. The largest share of individual scholarships are awarded by the Begabtenförderungswerke, which are supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Their application criteria vary, but all require above-average academic and examination results as well as social commitment. A comparative overview of the similarities and differences between the thirteen scholarships for the gifted can be found at www.stipendiumplus.de. In addition, there are a number of scholarships from smaller foundations and institutions, some of which award subject-specific, topic-specific or even person-specific scholarships. In addition, there are funding opportunities ranging from simple printing subsidies to funding for travel and stays abroad.
