Compensation for disadvantages caused by the pandemic

for junior researchers

As the "Survey on Corona-related effects on Research in academic staff 2020" has shown, the pandemic has, among other things, a major impact on the available working hours of junior researchers, not least because of the higher effort involved in online teaching.

The University of Konstanz introduced several measures in order to compensate for time expenditure and to promote the research performance of doctoral researchers and postdocs:

Measures for doctoral researchers

With the AFF dissertation completion funding for doctoral researchers and the doctoral fund set up as part of the Excellence Strategy, the university offers instruments for the doctoral phase to compensate for the effects of corona on research time and the limited access to research opportunities.

Research allowance for junior researchers with a doctorate

Postdocs may apply for a one-time research allowance of up to 3,000 euros, which can be used to finance research or teaching-related material expenses. The prerequisite for receiving the allowance is that teaching was carried out in the summer semester 2020 and / or in the winter semester 2020/21 at the University of Konstanz, that a temporary academic activity (with a contract, civil servant contract or scholarship) was pursued at the university at least since April 1st, 2020 and that this will be continued until at least 09/30/2021 or 06/30/2022. Funding can be requested either for 2021 or 2022. Money cannot be transferred to the next year. Applications for the research allowance may be submitted to the Division of Financial Affairs using the form "Corona-Compensation/Research allowance".

Corona-related contract extension options

Extension options for temporary academic contracts and sholarships as well as temporary civil servants that are currently in effect due to the corona pandemic are compiled here.

Measures for academic careers with children during the Corona crisis

The Equal Opportunity Office would like to provide the best possible support to all researchers and teachers with family responsibilities in these difficult times. To this end, they are implementing - in consultation with the crisis management team and the university management - measures for reconciliation, and are compiling information for you, which they are constantly updating and supplementing.
