Business Intelligence Competence Centre (BICC)

The Controlling unit is responsible for the implementation of the project Business Intelligence Competence Centre (BICC) which is funded as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German Federal and State Governments.

A Business Intelligence Competence Centre (BICC) is a cross-functional team that has defined roles, responsibilities, tasks and processes for advancing the effective use of Business Intelligence (BI) across an organisation. A BICC coordinates relevant activities and resources to ensure that a fact-based approach to decision making is systematically implemented throughout an organisation. It administers the governance structure for BI as well as the required analytical programmes, projects, practices, software and architecture. It improves the Data Literacy in the organisation and supports its members in taking strategic decisions by providing the necessary competencies, plans and priorities by using BI and analytical software.
(Strange/Hostmann 2003; Miller et al. 2006; Gansor/Totok 2015)

Using integrated systems and automated processes, the BICC will increase data collection and preparation efficiency, thereby reducing the burden of routine work and manual data management that supports data-driven decision-making processes at all organisational levels.

  • Increase efficiency in fulfilling internal and external reporting duties using integrated systems and automated processes
  • Support data-driven decision-making processes at all organisational levels and the early identification of strategic challenges
