Preparatory course and assessment test

If you have earned your higher education entrance qualification outside of Germany, then check whether the qualification certificate from your home country is accepted in Germany by visiting the web page of the Kultusministerkonferenz (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany). If this is not the case, then you can take an assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung).

The assessment test is offered for several subject groups. When you pass the relevant assessment test, you can apply for admission to the selected field of study.

You can prepare for the assessment test during a one year course of study at a Studienkolleg (preparatory course). At the end of the year, the preparatory course will offer the assessment test. If you are interested in studying at the University of Konstanz, we highly recommend that you prepare at the Studienkolleg Heidelberg (preparatory course in Heidelberg). Please register for this opportunity via the ZEuS portal by 15 July or 15 January.

As soon as you have passed the assessment test, please follow the guidelines for first-year students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland.

Important!

In order to be accepted into a preparatory course, you need to demonstrate sufficient German language skills, which is the equivalent of 800 hours of German language classes, or "Mittelstufe 2" or B2. An entrance exam will evaluate your abilities. You will receive the date for your entrance exam when you register.
