Die Junge Akademie was founded in 2000 as the world's first academy for outstanding early career researchers. Its members represent all academic disciplines as well as the arts and are appointed for a five-year period. The aim is to explore the potential and limits of interdisciplinary work, promote dialogue between research, art and society, and create new impulses for science policy discussions. Die Junge Akademie is supported by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Since it was founded, Die Junge Akademie has become a model for similar initiatives in numerous countries.
